You might be asking what is Yogurt cheese, well I will show you how you can make Yo-cheese. Yo-cheese is a type of cheese made from yogurt. Once you drain the whey from Yogurt you will have a really nice thick, creamy, and tangy soft cheese.

Yogurt cheese is a wonderful way to start making cheese on your own. This is also a great project for kids because of it so easy. I tried making this a while back when I was trying to incorporate more organic dairy products into my diet. This is a great substitute for cream cheese and tastes great on a bagel. While this cheese really isn’t suited for cooking, a little-added seasoning it makes a fabulous cheese spread. The possibilities are really unlimited, I have added Italian seasonings, or even chives, or bouquet garni.
Ingredients
- 16 ounces of yogurt - you can use more or less
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Place a towel into a colander and then pour yogurt into a towel. Lay the towel over the yogurt to completely cover the yogurt.
- This keeps the yogurt from picking anything up from the local atmosphere. Allow yogurt to drain for 5 to 6 hours, you can let the yogurt drain for longer, the longer you let the yogurt drain the thicker the yo-cheese will become. After the yogurt has been drained place it into a bowl.
- Season with a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. If desired add seasonings of your own desire. For chive flavored, I add about 2 teaspoons of fresh or dried chives.
